Energy storage is the best way to fully utilise renewable energy.

Renewable energy such as wind and solar can be intermittent. When you’re using power but your generation isn’t producing power - the energy storage can support the load rather than purchasing power from the grid.

It also works the other way round. Instead of exporting excess power - when the renewable generation is producing but there is only a small load, you can store that excess power which is worth up to 4 times as much as it would be worth if you were to export it back to the grid.

Energy storage also gives you backup power if the grid were to fail. It acts as a shock absorber filling in the gaps between generation and load and allowing for maximum self use of power you have generated.

We can also use energy storage to make use of off peak energy. We can charge up your energy storage at the cheaper off peak (or night) rates and then discharge the energy storage during peak times.

BASED ENERGY STORAGE?

There are many advantages to capacitor based storage over Chemical storage. Because capacitors store energy electrostatically they are highly efficient, can be charged and discharged faster than chemical batteries and don’t degrade.

Sirius addresses the weaknesses inherent in chemical battery storage solutions - specifically; safety, longevity and limited cycling capabilities. What you see is what you get with Sirius Capacitor storage.

 

There is no need to oversize your battery - because you can use the full capacity, unlike lithium-ion where you can only use 80% - 90% of the capacity. You also don't need to factor in the battery degrading over the lifespan, unlike lithium ion which in most cases has allowances to lose 20% - 30% over the warranty period.

Another advantage of storing power electrostatically is in the charge rates.

It means you are able to charge rapidly from solar so the modules are full for when solar is not available.

You can even use this feature to make the most efficient use of a generator by running it at the most efficient speed for less time.

This is due to chemical batteries not having the ability to charge and discharge as fast as Sirius Capacitors - causing increased operational expenditure.

100% USABLE CAPACITY

You can use 100% of the battery capacity that you buy. Compared to chemical alternatives, this is a significant advantage.

Chemical batteries are limited to between 50% - 90% useable capacity depending on the chemistry.

WIDE TEMPERATURE
RANGE

Sirius Energy storage features a wide operating temperature range.

It will perform in -30°C all the way through to 85°C without any affect on cycle life.

By comparison, chemical batteries will typically range around -10°C to 30°C. 

In some cases, air conditioning is installed to make sure chemical batteries are run at optimal temperature.

This increases costs that you don't need to consider when installing Sirius Capacitor energy storage.

There is no chemical reaction which typically causes heat and increases internal resistance over time, continually reducing battery efficiency.

The capacitors are made of graphene with trace amounts of lithium in the diffuse layer.

Chemical batteries by comparison are highly volatile and toxic, and they present a fire risk. If a fire is to occur with lithium batteries it is extremely difficult to put out.
